AWANA stands for Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed. Our primary focus is to introduce children to Jesus Christ and train them to serve Him.
2 Tim 2:15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth
Our AWANA program is for children 3 years through sixth grade. We meet weekly on Wednesday evenings, roughly concurrent with the Irving Independent School District school year. A typical Wednesday evening is an hour and a half comprised of Bible scripture memory, games, and devotionals. The children can earn ‘shares’ during each club for such things as being on time, bringing their Bible & handbook, wearing their uniform, bringing a friend, and reciting scripture memory verses. All activities are age appropriate and our goal is to make knowing and growing in God fun.
In addition to our normal Wednesday evening activities we have an annual Grand Prix race (similar to the Boy Scouts pinewood derby), and a club hike. Three times throughout the club year we have an AWANA Store where the children can purchase various toys and other items with the ‘shares’ they have earned.
Our AWANA program is coordinated by Paul Thomas. Please contact him with any questions (pdt0965@gmail.com).
